Cindy Owen

This blog has been created to serve as a gateway to inform the friends and family of Cindy Owen. Kevin will make regular postings as to the condition of Cindy and her treatment.

It has been some time since I have updated the blog so let me bring everyone up to speed. Since we have gotten mixed results from the Cisplatinum her doctors have opted to drop that drug (Amen! It made her entirely too sick) and add other drugs to her chemotherapy cocktail. We are praying these drugs will help to shrink the tumors and she will once again be able to do the things we all take for granted. Let me say a word about Cindy's spirit. Although it seems we have had many roadblocks and difficulties along the way on this journey she continues to be amazingly positive and optimistic. Caring for her family and running her home continue to be her top priority which means an incredibly long "honey do" list for me. Cindy's mom remains her nurse and provides the absolute greatest care. Cindy's dad, Bob has been with us for several days and is an incredible blessing. My sister arrived earlier in the week and she has been an incredible help to me personally. I continue to be amazed at the number of people who are praying for us and who regularly consult this blog. I know I have said it many times, but your prayers and words in response to this blog are a couple of the tangible ways God is sustaining us through this period. We love you all very much!

Your fellow struggler,

Kevin

The sweetest prayer was offered up on your behalf by Levi Monday morning on our way to school. Let Reid know that his buddy is praying for him, specifically. You're all in our thoughts and prayers.

Kevin, I am so happy to hear that Cindy is still worried about how her house is run. I love you all and there are so many people here in Lubbock praying for you and your wonderful wife. Please tell her that I love her more than anything and that I will be home soon. Let me know if we need to make an appt with the blood bank at the hospital. Talk to you all later. I love you with all my heart.

Kevin and Cindy,
You probably have no ideas how many lives you've touched throughout your own lives. I was just telling my Kevin the other day about something Cindy said when she was speaking at a Macland Road Ladies' retreat many many years ago and how it had impacted me. Please, please know that we're praying for you all every day. Thank you so much for the update. I check several times a day.

Love,
Chris Lynxwiler

Dear Kevin and Cindy,

I check this blog every day for word on how Cindy is doing on this difficult journey. Cindy has an incredible spirit that I've seen on many occasions such as Ladies Class and on retreats. I remember being in awe of her faith and wanting to be just like her. Her love of the Lord shines like a beacon from her face and everyone who is in her presence leaves with a bit of her spirit inside thier hearts. I pray daily not only for healing for Cindy, but also for you and your three boys.

In Christ,

Anne Marie Van Horn

Kevin & Cindy,
You have no idea how many people all over the country are lifting your family up in prayer. I have witnessed concerns expressed in prayer from Marietta and Douglasville, GA to Jackson, TN. Thank you for your example of faith; and that example extends to long before this present challenge. Thank you for touching lives in a way that honors God.

Kevin, I was just talking to Aunt Odell about you and Cindy - before I read this last post. Now, I need to call her back and give her some good news, the rest of the story. Blessings to all of you, you and Cindy and your care givers all. Went to see a movie last night, The night with the King. Now, it reminds me that we need strength like Esther and Mordicia, knowing there are always the Hamans around. BTW, I recommend the movie.

Dearest Cindy & Kevin,
When I begin each day and when it ends, I think of how great is God's love for you, and I am so grateful for it. You are so precious to Him and to all of us. We continue to pray that that He will show his glory and power to all, in doing a great thing for you and your loved ones. We look forward each day to your return, and we give thanks for the incredible example that you have set for us.
In His Love,

Kevin,
Thank you for this update on Cindy. In our Ephesians class tonight we will review Chapter 3:12-21. Paul's prayer for the Ephesians is indeed our prayer for you, we "pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ my dwell in your heart through faith." ...and from Peterson's The Message: "God can do anything, you know--far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it by working within us, His Spirit deeply and gently within us." May the Spirit of God continue to dwell within you and give you strength. Peggy Jameson

Kevin and Cindy,
Just to let you know we've added you to our prayer list. Even though we're so far apart, distance is no object to the Lord.

Kevin, Where do I begin...I have kept up with Cindy's situation through your postings on this blog and have never commented. Im not sure why but I want you all to know you are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday as Nina and I ran the 5K to benefit the NM Cancer Center and I was getting close to the finish and my pace was slowing down, I got my second wind when Cindy crossed my mind and her endurance and strength she has had for MONTHS pushed me to a STRONG finish. Cindy, yesterday's run was for you and those struggling with you. May God continue to strengthen you, heal you, and provide Kevin with all the support, love and encouragement you all need at this time. Have a blessed day. Alma

Dearest Kevin & Cindy,
I too, have not written in a while, but often just feel at a loss for words. I read the comments everyone else leaves for you, and sometimes it makes me feel like we are all saying the same things in different ways over and over again, but hopefully that is a good thing. Hopefully that repitition drives the point home to you guys, and that is that WE LOVE YOU and we ARE struggling with you in this journey. You are ALL in my constant thoughts and prayers. And of course, it is normal to be discouraged from time to time ... you are both human. Of course, you are setting a tremendous example for so many with your strength and positive attitudes, but I (like many, I am sure) can only imagine what a nightmare this is for you all, and I'm sure I'm not alone when I tell you that we do NOT expect you to to always be strong and always be positive. We are out here from "sea to shining sea" for you in the good times and the bad. We love you SO MUCH, and we cry for you, and pray for you, and think of you, and would do ANYTHING for you guys that we could to make this better and put this horrible time behind you. But for folks like me ... so far away ... I have just my words to offer ... that and my prayers. So please know that they are going up from Conyers, GA here on your behalf daily. Hang in there guys. I sure do love you.
Love,
Karla

I have prayed and prayed but I've never looked at this site. I wanted to stay focused on the positive and what I believe God can do. But I decided that I should come to this site just so I can leave this message.
I love, respect, admire, (did I say love?) you all so much! There is not a day that I don't ask God's blessings to be on you all many times.

This morning's devotional from Max Lucado pierced my heart as I thought of YOU! Here it is for you to read and ponder and respond...
The LORD hears good people when they cry out to him, and he saves them from all their troubles.
PSALM 34:17
When [a friend] told Jesus of the illness [of Lazarus] he said, "Lord, the one you love is sick." He doesn't base his appeal on the imperfect love of the one in need, but on the perfect love of the Savior. He doesn't say, "The one who loves you is sick." He says, "The one YOU love is sick." The power of the prayer, in other words, does not depend on the one who makes the prayer, but on the one who hears the prayer.
We can and must repeat the phrase in manifold ways. "The one you love is tired, sad, hungry, lonely, fearful, depressed." The words of the prayer vary, but the response never changes. The Savior hears the prayer. He silences heaven, so he won't miss a word. He hears the prayer.

The Great House of God
Max Lucado

Now...wasn't that uplifting! We are SURE that the Lord is hearing YOUR prayers and OUR prayers for YOU! With love...more than you can know...Teri & Paul

For some reason, you have been on my mind and in my heart today! As I continued my morning devotions, I was led to Psalm 91. Once again...I thought of YOU! This is a prayer for YOU, Cindy and Kevin. I hope, when you get this note, you will read it and KNOW that the Lord is with you and that we all continue to pray for your healing and return to us. We miss you so very very much! I'm leaving for Indiana tomorrow for 2 weeks to get my "fix" of baby love. I assure you that there...same as here...you are being prayed for. Teri and Ken's whole congregation lifts you up in prayer every time they meet. It's heartwarming to see how much love for you there is among those who have only heard about you. Teri and Ken, of course, know you and love you as we do and their sweet children remember you every night in their prayers...and, we know how precious children's prayers are in the ears of Our Lord! With more love than you can ever realize...Teri
